Day 35
In the morning when we wanted to transfer our video to tape and CD (the video couldn't be burnt into CD in Jen's laptop either when she took it home to try yesterday), it took us over and hour just to get it transferred! We tried to transfer with 2 different video cameras, 5 fire wires, burn it to a CD again (but we later heard that we cannot burn videos to CDs in the lab's computers :O) and at least 3 different computers but it still wouldn't work! But finally after using another video camera (i think it's Yi Chuin's one), we were able to transfer the video to tape. :] We were all pretty damn worried as the deadline was at 12 and we've overshot the time. luckily, the lecturers extended the time to 1pm and so we were able to submit our tape a few minutes after 1pm.
Anyway, after that we went to the lecturer theater, and most of the groups were there already. There was a screening of all the videos done by the different groups in MOI. i must say that I'm super impressed with some of the videos!! i could see that there were alot of effort put into every group's video but the two that stood out the most to me has to be Tri's and Raj's group videos! i just never got bored watching hose two videos and the animations for both videos are absolutely wonderful! i love how raj's video flow...the transitions were really good and man...the 3D animation for that video was stunning. Literally stunned me. Some of the videos are really funny and entertaining as well. I thought Apple's group video is very lighthearted and funny and i enjoyed that video alot. :]
During the screening of our video, I felt pretty nervous...I was worried that the content might bore some people. Hopefully everyone somewhat enjoyed the video! But after it was screened, I felt kinda relieved and happy because finally our P1 is over!! Since the production package is done, all we've left to do is to complete our blogs and print out our entries for submission. :]
From this module, I've learn that its very important to plan!! so that the work load will be spread out over the duration of the project, instead of it being concentrated at the end. That pretty much happened to us. We did plan out our schedule but we didn't anticipate certain things that might crop up...like not being able to transfer our video etcetc. So i've learn that i should at least leave a couple of days empty, so that in case such things do pop up, we will be ahead of schedule. ;] i also have to pay more attention to details like the lighting and all.
Once again, huge huge THANKS to those who have helped out with the video! Alvin, Germaine, those who have helped in someway or another (lecturers and classmates) when we were faced with any sort of difficulties and of course, last but not least, Alfie! :] And how can i ever forget...MY GROUP MEMBERS!!! It's been fun working with you guys. :] Even though we may face some problems along the way, we were able to overcome them together and come up with a completed video which i can safely say that i'm satisfied with. Soo...thank you SHUSHU, JENNYFULOPEZ, ADEBRUDDER and KALA!! :] We can finally all enjoy the upcoming hols. :]
And now...i bid you farewell!!

Day 34
We did a hell lot of things today!
We finally got all the footages we needed and so we can complile everything together. :] After that, we did a lot of editing work. We added the audio i did yesterday to the video. We also used audio transitions like fade in fade out etcetc. We also soften the audio when the people are speaking to minimise distraction from speech.
We had quite a number of jump cuts during the interview as we took out certain parts of the interview to shorten the time. But we solved the problem by putting the module processes over those areas. We also used video transtions to make the video flow better. Did some more colour corrections and stuff to the videos but for some, we couldn't get what we wanted and so the video lighting and colour are not that consistent throughout the video. Shu shu also added the subtitles for the 3D fundamentals module.
Couldn't burn the video to the cd in the school and so jen is going to bring home the footage to burn it! hopefully it works...if not we'll have to do the transferring tomorrow. But well at least we've done our video finish!! :D Now all that's left is to compile our blog enteries and print them for submission! And...Adeline is done with the production package too! :]
tomorrow, there's going to be a screening of all the P1 videos. Can't wait to see what the others have produced. Overall, i'm pretty happy with how the video have turned out. ..could be better but i'm satisfied. :]
Monday, March 17, 2008
Day 33
a large part of today was spent on transferring the videos and all from jen's laptop to a computer in the 3D lab. a few problems cropped up, such as jen's com not being able to put any data into shu's hard disk (we tried on about another 3 more hard disks and it all turn out the same). apparently it was because the hard disk is in the wrong format...or not mac compatible or something. aha just a few days ago i was writing about hoping that no problems like having the "wrong format" or something pops up...but man it did. -.-
Luckily when we tried apple/sarah's hard disk (they could use it with their mac), it could work!! :D but it took us over 2 hours just to transfer everything to the computer. i felt really bad that apple had to wait for us to transfer the videos (we only finished transferring at 7.30pm!) before she could go off. so really...thank you many many apple and jing yuan for waiting!!
while transferring, the whole group picked out 3 songs from our list of song selections. one for opening, one for the content (i'm removing the singing part to minimise distraction from our speech), and lastly one for the ending. we also picked out the footages we wanted (the earlier footage which we shot back in pre-production stage) so that we won't waste time...which we already are wasting with all these stupid transferrings. :[ shu had a problem with the animated words on the fast-motion boards but she managed to get it done by today and so i got that and the credits from her. jen's "still-picture video" (aha contradicting much) had pictures in the wrong size, and it was only noticed after it was exported. so she has to resize all the pictures! :O kala left at around 8 or 9pm and then shu left after that. jen stayed till pretty late at around 10plus but adebrudder and me stayed till 11plus to try and piece whatever we have at the moment together. there are still several footages left out of the video but we have no choice but to leave it for tomorrow.
another problem we had was the length of the video...all our footage are not even included yet but we realised that it was over 13 minutes already!! so we had to cut several parts of the interview out...and we probably have to fast forward several parts as well.
Afer that, i brought home the audio (speech) from the videos. We cannot use the separated audio which we recorded using the compressor mic after all! :[ there's almost an hour's worth of audio clips to go through and i dunno which part of the audio track goes with the selected video footage!
we currently don't have enough time to check which audio portion would be in sync with the video! so in the end, i had to take audio from the video. :[ it has more buzzing noise and this high pitched humming...i don't know how to get rid of the hummmm unfortunately...ahh well...
there's a lot to be accomplished tomorrow. hopefully we can get it done in time for the transferring...which i somehow doubt we would be able to. rendering would already take up a huge amount of time...ahh man i guess we'll just have to "make it work"!! *suddenly thinks of project runway* oorigh i gotta go sleep man...damn tired. aha man this have got to be my longest post to date! *is amazed with self*
Sunday, March 16, 2008
Day 32
ordered KFC for lunch and really half the time we really weren't doing anything that constructive. Xb camwhore, played guitar etcetc...well, it was fun. aha but we are now lacking in time IMO. quite afraid we can't finish for the transferring by tuesday...
Friday, March 14, 2008
Day 31
We split up the jobs to maximise our time. jen worked on the after effects for the edited pictures, shu shu edited the font for the "holding board" video which kala just passed us, as the font was wrong...shu had to do quite alot of changes as when the font is different, the placement and size of it is a little different. Ade and i did selection of the clip we wanted from all the footages we've got. there were a lot to pick from. luckily, kala already did some of the editing a few days ago and so we don't have to do that much. we just had to sit through quite alot of footage to pick the best take. i looked through it first and took out all the takes that we're definitely not going to use. then i sliced up the clips into individual takes so that jen and ade can pick which one they wanted. :] but we haven't got to edit the footage we shot back during the pre-production stage. :S anyway, we pieced whatever we had then and ten we found that we could actually adjust the brightness of the video in premier! aha didn't know that...too bad we didn't really get to do that much cos a large part of the time, we were trying to backup all the footage into jen's laptop and shu's hard disk...
the group (except kala) is going to meet up this sunday at my house! so we later planned out what each of us have to accomplish by sunday. adeline is going to typed out our new ideas (to be included for submission with the blog entries) , jen is going to continue working on the after effects, shu is going to finish editing the animated words which kala gave us and i'm going to animate the words for the parts that introduces the different modules. and everyone is going to update our blogs (so glad we can just change the date of when we post to give the impression like we've updated almost everyday. lol.) so that the workload won't be that great next week...i predict that it's going to be pretty hectic...especially if anything goes wrong during the rendering and all...or wrong format...or something. :S hope none of that shit pops up...and hopefully we can get all that we've planned done by sunday...
Thursday, March 13, 2008
Day 30
can't really remember what we did...but if i'm not wrong, shu and jen worked on the credits! its a very simple ending but i like it. :D and ad and me picked out some more music i think! ahhh we haven't really done anything for audio yet!! :S i know it's important and all but we can't started on it yet when the video isn't even complete yet...and i don't really know what i can do about the audio...i mean what can we do besides selecting music for the background? and maybe cleaning up the noise and buzz in the speech audio a little here and there but what else? i'm interested in audio engineering but i'm unsure about how and what needs to be done. aha. man.
we went for the diploma show at around four plus. i like some of the works! especially this animation called "the bad nut" or something like that. :] didn't get to see everything but i don't know why, but instead of feeling motivated to do better, i actually felt a tad discouraged. :S and i really felt like we should have put in more effort for our video...cause really after seeing the difference in standard...ahh well...hopefully we can pull it off and present something that i am happy with. and hopefully by year 3, i can be as good or even better.
Wednesday, March 12, 2008
Day 29
after he left, we all continued with editing the stickman works and adding animated words to the boards. we also selected some more songs which we thought would go well with our video!
we didn't finish adding colours to the works in each frame (it's really a pain to have to make changes to the animation especially since there were so many friggin keyframes...luckily they have the "convert to symbol" option...phew.), shu shu brought back the animation to work on the colouring and kala brought back the fast motion boards one home.
Tuesday, March 11, 2008
Day 28
Monday, March 10, 2008
Day 27
anyway, today we went to the 3d lab and transferred the other footages as well as the one from the 2D lab to a computer in the 3D lab. Shu continued to improve on her flash, i typed out the schedule for presentation tomorrow, kala uploaded the video to the com and the rest are going to redraw the storyboard to make it more presentable. ;] so yea thats what we did!! i took back the stickman animation so that i could work on the dragging part. man it's pretty tedious...shu's gonna finish editing the pictures of our work in photoshop! gonna take a break tomorrow...so the group's not meeting up!
Friday, March 7, 2008
Day 26
soooo, i took me about 3-4 tries and i was done! :] i sometimes i tend to forget my lines and so we flashed the words on the screen behind using the visualiser and paste my script so i can peep when i can't remember. :b hopefully i was convincing enough...it's hard not to look like your reading from a script. XD we used the condenser microphone again and the same system we used the other time. after that, kala and me left first while the rest continued to film!! yea!!
Thursday, March 6, 2008
Day 25
ohoh i think i remembered now! hmm...we uploaded all the pictures we took and we edited it in photoshop. some of my groups mates managed to upload some videos to a computer in the 2D lab. :] but then we saved everything in shu shu's hard disk as a backup. don't wanna waste another few hours trying to upload the videos again.
Wednesday, March 5, 2008
Day 24
Tuesday, March 4, 2008
Day 23
i brought my home's condenser microphone so that the audio for the speech would sound clearer, but we're still going to to record the audio in the video camera though, in case we can't get the audio to be in sync. Then someone controlled the recording for the audio and another one for the video. overtime, we sort of developed a "system" so that we can know which audio goes with which part of the video. we might not even use the audio though...it took us quite a number of takes before we were happy with the take and by then, when we wanted to get a computer to upload the footage, all the computers in the 2d lab were occupied and the 3d lab was closed...so we just ended early. actually we mostly end early. :b
still waiting for the scripts...hopefully it'll be edited soon...
Monday, March 3, 2008
Day 22
then at 1.30pm, after everyone has arrived, we went to the classroom and looked for Alfie cause we needed the edited scripts. But so far he has only finished kala's part. But kala haven't memorised her script yet, so we ended up staying in the class while Alfie talked to us about some stuff.
after that, we filmed the animation and 2d art fun process. and yea thats today!
Friday, February 29, 2008
Day 21
anyhoo, we also shot shu shu doing the demonstration for coiling. yea so thats what we did! over the weekend, i have to complete my part of the animating and then later pass it over to shu shu. hopefully it'll turn out well...
germ and me went to get our saosin/incubus tics today!! :D can't believe it's in a week! dunno why but it hasn't really hit me yet...lol.
Thursday, February 28, 2008
Day 20
after that, we were all hungry and so we went to eat and ended up chatting and chilling there till 3.30pm! i really enjoy just sitting and chatting with my group mates and all but i think we're lagging behind...germ just told me that she's done with her filming and that made me feel a tad stressed. :[
i've got the last frame of the video for the flipbook...so i can start on the animating! i think we're going to do quite some filming tomorrow...
Wednesday, February 27, 2008
Day 19
yea so thats all we did for our project today...didn't really do what we intended to do but hopefully it can all be done tomorrow. we're going to "interview" alfie on ideation!
Tuesday, February 26, 2008
Day 18
anyway, it was pretty time consuming as we had to stand and hold up wooden boards for a very long time (which was pretty tiring!), and when we speed up the footage, it'll look like other people are walking really quickly, while we look like we're standing at one spot. i know the idea isn't phrased very well but hopefully you (if there's even anybody reading this) got my drift. it looked pretty good when we played it back, though i was very figity and looked like i was having pretty bad and frequent spasms...:b
oh yea! germ came to help out a little with our video. she handled the video camera for us cos all of us had to be in the shot, and we wanted to do this short stop-motion thing. so she helped. fanks ma twin. ;]
Monday, February 25, 2008
Day 17
tomorrow, we're going to finish filming our opening! and hopefully get our scripts finalised. :] and select the works we wanna show in the video. suppose to do that today but ad and i forgot to take pictures of our work for selection. aha soz guys...or rather girls. :S we might do selection of audio tracks as well! i picked out a couple of songs that i thought might work with our video but we haven't found the time to really sit at a computer and listen and visualise if it'll work yet.
anyhoo, germ and i found a thread on soft.com.sg and someone was gathering 10 people for the saosin/incubus concert package deal! so we and two other friends signed up for it and now, there's 10 people and so we can pay only $95! :D yayayay! oh man can't wait can't wait! :D:D
Friday, February 22, 2008
Day 16
over the weekends, i gotta do a flipbook "animation" thingy...hopefully it'll turn out oorigh...if not better!
Thursday, February 21, 2008
Day 15
oh yea we also planned out a schedule today!! :D but it's only for next week cos the storyboarding for the process of the modules we are doing on aren't done yet...so we'll just cover what we have!!
And oh yea!! great news....SAOSIN IS OPENING FOR INCUBUS on march 7th!!! YAYAYAYA!! i realllllyyyy wanna go...:D actually contemplated going for incubus when the early bird ticket price was $95...but now the tickets are $125...pricey man. However, SAOSIN (love them!) are now playing as well and there's a package deal! if 10 or more people buy together, everyone only have to pay $95! yea it's still a lot...but if i can save $30, why not? ;] and since both bands are playing full sets (heard saosin's playing for an hour), it's even more worth it. :D now just gotta gather 10 people to get the package deal...
Wednesday, February 20, 2008
Day 14
Tomorrow there's some interim thingy. :S not much to show so far but at least we sorta got our storyboards done and the finalised idea for the video. when i was leaving school with shu shu, we saw some groups that has already done alot! they've gotten some of their animation done and some have even completed their opening. :X gahh hope we'll be able to finish doing everything next month! we should really really do up a schedule...in that way, we'll have better time management and at least have an idea when our filming and all will be done. i'd rather work harder now and slack later...
oh well, hopefully we'll pick up the pace after our other module, Des H&C, is over. only another two more days to the end of the block!
Tuesday, February 19, 2008
Day 13
thats all we did today! yea super short entry eh?
Monday, February 18, 2008
Day 12
anyway, we went to the mac lab to discuss more about the content. i know i've said that we've settled on an idea on day 10...but...we changed the idea again. :X lol. are we fickle or what? but anyway, i feel that the new idea will enable our content to flow better...and can probably meet our objectives better...so...:] we're sticking to the opening and ending, just that we tweak it a little to make it join with the content better.
so yea...thats today! i hope we'll stick to this new idea and stop changing it so many times. :]
we must finish our storyboarding by tomorrow!
Friday, February 15, 2008
Day 11
we were suppose to complete our storyboard by today! when i got to class, only shu shu was there and so we did the storyboarding for the opening and then the rest came and alfie did a whole lot of talking and then, we went to the mac lab and...you know end up digressing half the time. :X so the storyboard's incomplete...and so our schedule can't but planned out. damn we seriously need to get on with the storyboarding and scripts and all...just one more week for pre-production only!! :S
Thursday, February 14, 2008
Day 10
Decided to change the opening cause its just too tedious for us to do all that animation. kinda worried that we can't finish everything in time, so we changed it to something shorter. we shared our idea with alfie and he said he like it better than our initial idea! :] so woot!! tomorrow we're going to do our storyboard! so yea...thats today...
Wednesday, February 13, 2008
Day 9
it's been more productive today...i think there's still filming tomorrow...hopefully we'll get to use a lot of the footage! don't want all our time and effort be for nothing...:S
Tuesday, February 12, 2008
Day 8
anyhoo, the shooting location's outside swee lee on the 3rd level (my eyes got to feast on the many instruments. :b) and so we shoot the year 2s doing their production. watching them do their production made me realise how much time is needed just to film a scene...and it can be pretty repetitive. when i was doing my video fundamentals module a couple of months back (ad and shermin was in my group then. :D), i wasn't too aware about that fact cause we're doing the video production itself at that time. But now that i got to see other people do the production, it's really time consuming and can honestly get pretty dull if you're just watching the crew work. ;b we didn't have an earlier plan of how our shots would look like, cause we didn't know what the years 2s were going to shoot and all. so basically, we are now going to get as much footage as we can...and then we'll have more to choose from. and luckily this time we didn't have to do in camera editing. phew. that was quite a bitch to do the last time. ;]
everything finished at about 2pm and then jen and me went back to school for Des H&C...yea so thats today! we might be doing some more filming tomorrow...but it will be in sch so we don't have to travel too much. :D
Monday, February 11, 2008
Day 7
anyhoo, today we went to class, alfie talked again for a pretty long time and then we finally had some more time discuss. we are going to start our video shooting tomorrow...couldn't really plan our schedule in detail cos the filming really depends on the schedule of the second years. kala managed to get permission from a couple of second years (:]) and tomorrow we're going to film them film their video! yea...i gotta go get the video cam from school in the morning cos i live nearest to TP. :S hopefully there are still enough video cameras for us to use...the second and third years got priority on the camera loaning...
so after that we left and i went to work with ma twin! (no des H&C yay)
yea sooooo...thats all...my eyes are about to shut already...ta!
Tuesday, February 5, 2008
Day 6
and yay and now on to CNY hols!! :D:D ang baos. $) woot woot!!
Monday, February 4, 2008
Day 5
tomorrow's the first presentation and luckily Alfie's not going to grade us on how well we present. phew. :] we decide to present using powerpoint slides and so we all chose areas we wanna type on. i'm doing the opening. after we all type, we're going to send it to kala and she'll compile all the text and put them into slides. thanks kala!! :D
yea so thats today!! can't wait for the chinese new year break. ;]
Thursday, January 31, 2008
Day 4
we decided to have the opening and the closing as animations, the opening will transition into real live, something similar to "Hostage". :] came up with a lot of ideas and i think we tried to fit too many ideas into the video that it will become too complicated. so we'll have another meeting soon and hopefully we'll be able to finalise what we want in the video. Having identified the target audience, we are trying to find ways to attract them by having things they like and want to know. so we asked each other this question: why did you pick TP? why MOI over other courses? since we were once the "target audience" ourselves (students deciding on where they want to study at), we asked ourselves as the answers would probably the content we should be working on. if we went to TP because of the factors found in the answers to those questions, then our target audience most likely will.
anyhoo, we're all going to research on more documentaries and hopefully it'll give us some more ideas. i think we might stick to the harry potter idea (the moving images part of it)...but the story idea is pretty much scrapped. we might actually do a "before and after" kind of thing...still unsure...gotta discuss more on day 4 (next monday)! woot at least i don't have to update this blog tomorrow, saturday and on sunday. :]
Wednesday, January 30, 2008
Day 3
ANYWAY, the documentary was well-filmed. there was proper lighting, set designs, audio and overall it looked professionally made. unlike this video about some dudes going to climb Mt.Everest (can't really remember what it was about). the opening was kinda promising and then as it progressed, i felt it was such a letdown. it looked like a tourist video, it was really shaky, plus the music at the background was loud to the point it was quite hard to hear the people's dialogues. that's for the style only though, i can't say much about the content since i'm no mountain climber. Maybe the producers are more interested in showing the content and thus didn't really pay much attention to how it would look...
After that, we also saw a part of the making of the film "gangs of new york"! i thought it looked like a pretty good film and i have heard that it's good too, so germs (my twin) and i went to borrow the movie from our dad's video rental shop.
(warning: shameless promoting up ahead.)
its near simei MRT along a row of coffeeshops. it has a wide range of movies you can rent for only $3/vcd, $10/4vcds. yea. :b english, chinese, hindi, tamil, jap, korean, you name it. :] gogogogogo rent!
Ooorigh back to the lesson. After that, we were shown some openings and closings from Ronald to several films like Monster Inc., Shoot them up, Hostage, etc. They were all really interesting. But the opening for Hostage stayed in my mind the most! i like how it transitioned from animation to video. then Wahidah showed us some documentary...can't really remember what it was about. :X something about war i think. it was pretty boring to be honest.
So overall, some of the videos shown today inspired and made me want to do a really good video for the project, cause i won't enjoy seeing crappy work being put up for show. i also saw the importance of having appropriate audio and set design. the theme and quality of the video should also be consistent, i don't want it to be like the documentary about the mountain climbers. there's no point in having quite a good start and then let it be ruined by other parts of the video.
yea so thats all for today!
Tuesday, January 29, 2008
Day 2
So...on to day two! Today my group got to discuss more about our project. Jen's got a bad stomach ache during discussion...*pats back* Ahh it's only the second post but I don't know why but I am finding it quite a pain to type in this blog (uh oh sloth)...can't imagine doing it for the rest of the block. Oh wait, it's for two entire blocks! :S Hopefully I can type something more interesting as we go on through the project.
Anyway, we generated a couple of ideas and eventually settled on one cause the rest seemed too cliché...you know the usual news casting stuff and all. :] So we ended up deciding to make it into a "Harry Potter-ish" kind of style. :D Yay love Harry Potter. I feel that the books are better than the movies though. And nope, we're not going to pretend that TP is like Hogwarts or something, but rather we'll have like a moving scene within a picture. For example, to show the photography module, we'll have a scene of us going out to shoot and this will be shown on something that represents photography...like a film roll or something. I don't know yet. Aha. Well we've got the general idea but haven't got the details down yet...we'll probably add more to that as well, like some sort of story going throughout the video.
We shared our idea with Alfie and i think he liked the style. But we weren't really focusing on the content but more concerned about how the video would look. So we've got to discuss more about the content, target audience etc.
Tomorrow we're going to the lecture room and we'll get to see some good and bad videos, so we'll know what to do and what not to. :]

Brudder!! :D

Jen looking very unglam. lawl! :]
...oorigh...erm. yea so...bye!
Monday, January 28, 2008
Day 1
Sooo, here's the update about day 1. Today is the first lesson and all the MOIers gathered in the lecture room for a briefing on our project. We are suppose to create a video presentation on works we've done for the past 10 months and apply what we've learn on the video. We also got the schedule for the teaching days, when is our presentations and such. And we got from Wednesday to Friday off next week! Woot chinese new year! :D
we later went to our own classes (mine's Alfie's class) and we grouped ourselves onto groups. My group has 5 people and they are Adeline (brudder!!), Kala, Jen and Shushu!! :D We got briefed further by Alfie and then our class ended so yea. Thats for today's lesson. The end. :]
