Day 3. There was a joint "lecture" for all three classes of MOI project 1 in LT 25. We were shown several videos from all three lecturers. The first one we saw by Alfie was the making of LOTR by national geographic. love LOTR!! :D i remember going to this LOTR exhibition in Singapore a couple years back. it was hella cool with all the costumes, swords and all. *has flashbacks*
ANYWAY, the documentary was well-filmed. there was proper lighting, set designs, audio and overall it looked professionally made. unlike this video about some dudes going to climb Mt.Everest (can't really remember what it was about). the opening was kinda promising and then as it progressed, i felt it was such a letdown. it looked like a tourist video, it was really shaky, plus the music at the background was loud to the point it was quite hard to hear the people's dialogues. that's for the style only though, i can't say much about the content since i'm no mountain climber. Maybe the producers are more interested in showing the content and thus didn't really pay much attention to how it would look...
After that, we also saw a part of the making of the film "gangs of new york"! i thought it looked like a pretty good film and i have heard that it's good too, so germs (my twin) and i went to borrow the movie from our dad's video rental shop.
(warning: shameless promoting up ahead.)
its near simei MRT along a row of coffeeshops. it has a wide range of movies you can rent for only $3/vcd, $10/4vcds. yea. :b english, chinese, hindi, tamil, jap, korean, you name it. :] gogogogogo rent!
Ooorigh back to the lesson. After that, we were shown some openings and closings from Ronald to several films like Monster Inc., Shoot them up, Hostage, etc. They were all really interesting. But the opening for Hostage stayed in my mind the most! i like how it transitioned from animation to video. then Wahidah showed us some documentary...can't really remember what it was about. :X something about war i think. it was pretty boring to be honest.
So overall, some of the videos shown today inspired and made me want to do a really good video for the project, cause i won't enjoy seeing crappy work being put up for show. i also saw the importance of having appropriate audio and set design. the theme and quality of the video should also be consistent, i don't want it to be like the documentary about the mountain climbers. there's no point in having quite a good start and then let it be ruined by other parts of the video.
yea so thats all for today!
